The growing interest towards Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has attracted not only investors, but also increasingly sophisticated scammers. In fact, due to the promise of quick and simple profits, many individuals may fall into the pitfall of allegedly secure online trading platforms, behind which criminal organization could be hidden. Throughout this mechanism, the embezzled funds are promptly transferred to foreign accounts, with the aim of making them untraceable and, consequently, making their recovery extremely difficult.
Andrea Puccio, interviewed by La Stampa, delved into the phenomenon of cryptocurrency scams, explaining how the complexity of these operations, which are frequently transnational in nature, makes it challenging to track the stolen funds.
