Recent developments, such as the intervention of the I2Coalition (Internet Infrastructure Coalition), which represents multinational companies like Amazon, Google, and Cloudflare, have highlighted serious critical issues, including the lack of safeguards and guarantees for users’ fundamental rights.

Andrea Puccio, interviewed by Corriere della Sera, emphasized the dangers of automated handling of Piracy Shield reports, when conducted without prior or adversarial verification. According to Mr. Puccio, this system exposes the platform to instrumental reporting/claims and false positives, thereby risking unjustified censure. In light of this, it appears necessary to strike a balance between automation and the protection of fundamental rights.
